Elton's Brain tilts so far left that it falls out
05.27.04 (10:03 am)   [edit]
On this episode of Elton's Brain, Elton John is forced to revisit accusations he made against the producers of American Idol that their show is racist.

Elton: "I liked those three. They're black. But they are the bottom three contestants! Damn those American racists!"

Elton's Sidekick Gulliermo: "But Elton, many of the remaining contestants are black."

Elton: "Damn you Gulliermo, don't interrupt me! Can't you see I'm focusing on THESE THREE black women?"

Gulliermo: "Sorry."

Elton: "Look at the racism apparent in those three black women! Look how downtrodden they are! Look at what the racist American system has done to them!"

Flash Forward: A black woman wins the American Idol competition.

Gulliermo: "Look, Elton! A black woman won! The Americans are not so racist as you thought!"

Elton, sobbing: "Oh, the inhumanity of the racist voting against those three black women! Shame on you America!"

Global Warming and its Opponents
05.24.04 (9:48 am)   [edit]

Interesting story about a Putin aide in Russia and his observation of the Global Warming Movement is a lot like Communism in its methods.

"For 70 years, Russia suffered from Communism and Marxism, and it incurred huge losses. And now they want us to accept another form of totalitarian ideology," he said.

Imagine that. A guy from a hardcore former-commie country like Russia saying that. These guys ought to know.

Europe is becoming a fascist superstate. Things like the Kyoto Treaty are only the tip of the iceberg, and you will see their behavior become progressively worse as they adopt more stringent and dictatorial control. Of course, such policies will damage their economy, and in the search for a scapegoat, things will just get uglier still.

Islam is not a Religion of Peace
05.13.04 (5:57 pm)   [edit]
I have to wonder where people's brains are.

It is all the fashion in America to stand up for the rights of the "downtrodden" Palestinians, and blame Israel for the current set of terrorist bombings. In their rush to be even-handed, I think liberals have lost all sense of what is right and wrong.

Atrocities against Israelis happen all the time. The people that blow themselves up in crowds of Israeli children are evil. What else could they be? You may criticize Israel for its response, but Israel does not target children and pregnant mothers.

The leftists of the world just cannot seem to see the reality of this. It boggles my mind that people that call themselves rational could support this activity in any way, even by inaction. An Israeli mother and her four girls, all under 12 years old, are shot to death by Palestinian murderers. This is evil. There can be no compromise. But the leftists gloss right over that and go to the Israelis with blame and hatred.

People say "This is not the real Islam." Well, sorry folks, but it is the real Islam. If I hold a KKK convention, and then tell you "I'm not the KKK, I just held the convention", does that make any sense to you? If I have parties in my house and I kill people and eat them, but I denounce cannibalism, does that hold any water?

Now I can see why the left is for legalization of narcotics. They're high as a kite if this is the kind of crap they come up with.

If this were not the real Islam, we would see widespread condemnation of barbarous acts like this. In America, we stack naked men up and the whole country freaks out. In Islam, you murder a pregnant woman and her four children in their car, and there is nary a peep or dissent.

If Muslims can't stand up and say "I renounce barbarism", how am I supposed to believe that they don't support it? If Muslims teach their children that Jews are pigs and dogs and should be killed, why am I supposed to believe it when they say they are a religion of peace? and if the rest of the Islamic world can't bring itself to denounce barbarism and terrorism, why should I believe they don't support it? How gullible am I supposed to be?

Here's an interesting story about the peace-loving Islamic religion.

I've changed my mind about "prisoner abuse"
05.12.04 (12:31 pm)   [edit]
I think in this instance, I've made a mistake in trusting the media, and I should know better.

Under normal circumstances, I'd say that stacking Iraqis (or foreign insurgents) up naked and taking pictures of them is a bad thing. But we're dealing with fanatics here. And after the sick bastards beheaded Nick Berg, I really don't care what our troops did to them. Short of outright torture, if they're militants, I say do whatever the hell you want with them. Cut their heads off. I don't care.

US Laser Weapon Closer to Reality
05.07.04 (2:51 pm)   [edit]
Tactical Lasers

The future is now. Welcome to the future. Does it look like you thought it would? To me, it just looks like the same old present, and notably absent are the flying cars. but no matter.

The US Army, in collaboration with Israel, is developing something called the MTHEL, or Mobile Tactical High Energy Laser. What does this MTHEL do, you ask? It shoots stuff down. All kinds of stuff. Even stuff that has never been shot down before by anything or anyone.

The MTHEL is a chemical laser system mounted on a big truck. It's huge right now - about the size of an 18-wheel rig, but it's still an amazing piece of work.

The MTHEL is capable of shooting down aircraft, yes. But it can also shoot down rockets, for example - a previously impossible task. Rockets have a couple of things going for them, but their most important factor is speed. They move so fast that it's very hard to shoot them down, and it's very expensive to do with anti-rocket missiles. Also, rockets tend to be harder than aircraft. Their warheads are heavy guage steel instead of a light skin. So whatever you hit them with has to be pretty brutal.

A classic example of a tactical rocket is the Russian Katyusha, in use since World War II. They've tested the MTHEL against Katyushas, and shot them down 28 times, including scenarios with multiple rockets being fired at the same time.

Artillery shells can also be shot down with the MTHEL. Again, this was impossible before. Even Patriot missiles can't shoot down artillery shells.

Folks, I can't begin to tell you what a revolution this is in warfare. This may well spell the end of ballistic weapons as we know them. Anything shot out of a cannon, dropped from a plane or launched from a pad is now destroyable, even in its high-speed terminal phase (when the warhead is streaking at you at 5,000 miles an hour). Poof. That's all vulnerable now.

This all means that there has been a sea change in weaponry and warfare. This is the most revolutionary weapon system to be developed since the airplane. Maybe even since the artillery cannon.

As far as I know, this system has not been tested against direct-fire weapons like tank shells or bullets, and I really doubt it is capable of engaging those things. But it's only a matter of time. It's possible that in 25 years, enemy tanks will be incapable of attacking American forces because their shells will be destroyed before they land.

To understand the full significance of this, you need to understand the importance of kinetic and ballistic weapons in warfare today, and indeed, for the last few hundred years. Almost nothing happens on a battlefield that does not involve an artillery shell, rocket, bomb or mine. If the MTHEL is issued in sufficient numbers, you can write off cannons, aircraft, rockets and mines. They'll be useless. At that point you're only dealing with infantry - you're facing a foe that is fighting at the level of a pre-Napoleonic army. Think the 2006 US Army vs. the 1750 Prussian Cavalry and you won't be too far off.
