The sickness of the left
01.31.05 (1:28 pm)   [edit]

I think of all the things I hate about the global left, the air of arrogance, the elitism, the smug self-congratulation, this is what I hate most: The left cannot admit when it is wrong.

Even in Europe, though, you can count on at least a polite acknowledgement that democratic elections took place in Iraq. When the elections happened there, the Europeans sent congratulations. Now maybe those congratulations were entirely insincere, but at least they made a diplomatic gesture of good will.

You will find no such good will in the American left, however. You will see not even a passing acknowledgement that something constructive happened in Iraq on Sunday. And this is what I hate most about the leftists in America: They can never, ever bring themselves to support anything happening on the right. They oppose anything that they did not create themselves and even sometimes things they did. The idea of cooperating with their ideological counterparts seems more than ever to be an impossible task. This makes them appear to oppose even the most righteous, sacred ideas of our republic, like democracy and free speech.

I think this is why the Democratic party is slowly but surely disintegrating. One would think that if the people consistently support the other side, then maybe a modification of the platform is in order. To democrats, though, this is impossible. They are intractible in their ideology - nothing can change, except toward the more extreme. No concession can be made.

In the end, societies that fall victim to this sort of rigidity are doomed. Europe, facing mounting demographic issues but totally unwilling to address them, is not going to survive the next 50 years in the form they are now. Their social policies or their nations are doomed. It's one or the other. But I digress.

In America, you could be forgiven for thinking that an election in Iraq was a non-event.
John Kerry responded with the kind of attitude that cost him the election. "No one in the US should try to overhype this election," he said.

Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid missed the point entirely, calling the elections "a first step in helping figure out a way that the U.S. can get out of Iraq ... We have to figure out a way to remove ourselves from there with dignity."

Senator Ted Kennedy congratulated the Iraqi people, paying no attention whatsoever to the US troops who enabled their freedom. Then he blathered something about the US needing to find a way to get out of Iraq, as if we never thought of that. Ted, this George W. Bush, not Lyndon Johnson.

Typical of liberals, their first instinct is to flee.

Nancy Pelosi meant to say something, but the most recent plastic surgery seems to have been botched, and her face froze in that deer-in-the-headlights surprised look that she always has.

Others, however, have had a more positive, realistic view of the ground-breaking elections. The Chicago Tribune hailed the elections as "the true insurgency". I like that.

To Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, leader of the pathetic "Al Queda in Iraq" terrorist movement, I say: You failed. It is over for you. Welcome to The Ash Heap of History. Please try to find a comfortable place to spend the rest of eternity with Josef Stalin, Adolf Hitler and Pol Pot.

The Iraqis themselves proved to the world that they are brave, concientious people. They stood up when the time came and despite threats of violence, they took a stand. In America, it's no big deal to vote. In Iraq, you were taking your life in your hands. But they were not deterred. They were brave.

Iraq, I am proud of you.

What You Must Know About the News
01.18.05 (12:40 pm)   [edit]

When you watch the news, or read it in a newspaper, you have to understand that news organizations, for a variety of reasons, don't give you a fair picture of anything that is newsworthy. I believe that liberal bias and sensationalism both play a role, but the fact is, if you want the truth, the last place to look is the news.

A boots-eye view of Iraq. Please note that it discusses things that are going to be a surprise to you, because the news media won't tell the truth.

Allah Vs. The Beach
01.10.05 (2:17 pm)   [edit]

Part of a Muslim sermon broadcast on Palestinian Authority TV. And who says these guys hate Jews?

What happened there, in South-East Asia … we ask God to have mercy upon all the martyrs - for he who dies by drowning is a martyr. We ask God to have mercy upon all the Muslims who died there. Allah willing, they are martyrs.

You can be a martyr just by getting drowned by a tsunami? What doesn't qualify for martyrdom then? Can I be a martyr if I get drunk and drive my car off a cliff?

Do I even have to die? What if I just get a really bad case of the flu?

But, don't you think that the wrath of the earth and the wrath of the sea should make us reflect? Tens of thousands dead, and many predict that the number will be in the hundreds of thousands. We ask God for forgiveness. When oppression and corruption increase, the law of equilibrium applies. I can see in your eyes that you are wondering what the 'universal law of equilibrium' is. This law is a divine law. If people are remiss in implementing God's law and in being zealous and vengeful for His sake, Allah sets his soldiers in action to take revenge.

The oppression and corruption caused by America and the Jews have increased. Have you heard of these beaches that are called 'tourists' paradise?' You have all probably heard of Bangkok. We read about it, and knew it as the center of corruption on the face of this earth. Over there, there are Zionist and American investments. Over there they bring Muslims and others to prostitution. Over there, there are beaches, which they dubbed 'tourists' paradise,' while only a few meters away, the locals live in hell on earth. They cannot make ends meet, while a few meters away there is a paradise, 'tourists' paradise.'

Ah, I see. So Allah is taking his revenge on Jews and Americans by obliterating some luxury resorts, taking out a few dozen Americans and Jews, and wiping out 150,000 Muslims at the same time. Notice Allah didn't send a tsunami to America, though, or Israel for that matter. But maybe he was aiming for Israel, and he missed. Is Allah just not a very good shot?

You can read the whole laughable list of fanatical religious wackoisms, including claims that "drunken dancing and revelry" caused the catastrophe, here:
